Handspun Herringbone Mittens

A little bit of incongruity

Handspun Herringbone Mittens

I started with this incredible African Violet Fiber Parfait from Blue Mountain Handcrafts - it included Romney, BL, and BFL fleece, a mini batt, handcombed wool blend, merino top, faux cashmere, bamboo, silk and firestar - what an awesome fiber package!

African Violet batt pack

I separated the colors and made these soft shimmery semi smooth batts

African Violet Batts

Spun regular 3 ply worsted weight
purple - 56 grams 102 yards
green - 52 grams 99 yards

There is LOTS of sparkle in this yarn - difficult to capture it with my camera.

African Violet Handspun

Pattern: Herringbone Mittens a free Rav down load by Elli Stubenrauch
Yarn: Every inch of this handspun - here is how much purple I had left after the last thumb!! ; 12 grams of Posh Eva Cashmere Silk left over from this scarf for the lining.
Needles: 2 mitts on 1 circular - US size 4 for the cuff; US size 6 for the outer hand; US size 5 for the liner
Size: Medium 8 3/4" circumference and 10" long (50 stitches around)

Such cool thumbs!

The only mod I made was to knit in a wonderful cashmere/silk lining
