Handspun Plaid

Hobbledehoy handwoven scarf

Started with these fluffy battlings from Hobbledehoy in Blue Sky (a fall battling SAL inspired by Breaking Bad ) These tiny batts were so soft that I knew I wanted the finished project to wrap around my neck - the ingredients.. merino wool, superfine merino, silk, bamboo, tencel, sari silk, alpaca, sparkle - YUMMM!

Hobbledehoy Battlings

4 colorways - a total of 2.5 ounces/240 yards of 2 ply - not very much, but I decided it was enough for a woven scarf and if the scarf wasn't long enough I would turn it into a woven cowl.

Hobbledehoy Handspun

I designed the plaid to use up all my yarn, but was off on the calculations - ran out of navy when I had enough of the other colors for another repeat :(
But at 46" long X 7" wide , it was perfect for a nice lightweight scarf - and a scarf it will stay - not turning it into a cowl this time, but I still think that is a good idea for a future short scarf.

Woven handspun scarf

Here is a close up of the weave - all those little nubs of color and specks of sari silk, shiny tencel and bamboo and the glistening sparkle (which sadly you can't see in these pictures) - I can stare at woven fabric for a long time - mesmerizing!

Handspun Handwoven Plaid Scarf I have trouble with scarf self portraits - my arm isn't long enough, totally dorky trying to smile when no one else is there, and the camera shadow is in all the pictures, but you get the idea...

I now have visions of using up all my leftover handspun and leftover sock yarn to weave plaid scarves!
