Come Together Fiesta Mittens
Ginny of Fat Cat Knits was the indie dyer for The Completely Twisted and Arbitrary Spinning Group's Summer SAL so of course I had to join in! The colorway I chose used this picture as inspiration. It is called Come Together and the fiber base I picked was falkland wool. When I saw the braid, I knew I would split it up into bright colors and dark colors, but had no idea what I would do with it.
Just look at these colors!!
SO much fun to spin the bright section!
and such wild wonderful yarn! (424 yards/116 grams 3 ply fingering weight)
There were some attempts (I so badly wanted to make Love and Peace mittens with this yarn, but the contrast was not distinct enough for lettering) and misses using this yarn, but I finally settled on the perfect pattern - Fiesta Mittens by Lucy Neatby. The 3 dimensional aspect of the slip stitch pattern made the contrast yarn jump right out - Perfect!

Pattern: Fiesta Mittens by Lucy Neatby
Size: Large (66 stitches )8" circumference - 10" cuff to tip
Yarn: 75 grams of handspun falkland wool 3 ply fingering weight - dyed by FatCatKnits in Come Together colorway.
Needles: 2 mittens on US 1 (2.25mm) 40" circular needle
Mods: changed cuff to K1 MC, K1CC instead of ribbing. Decrease only 2 stitches on thumb (instead of 4) so thumb worked on 24 stitches. Otherwise no changes to pattern. An exceptionally well written pattern as usual for Lucy Neatby!
A close up of the Flying Swallow Slip stitch pattern - I love how the colors jump out!
the chickens were very curious - following me around as I took these self photos...
Lucy Neatby's fun pattern coupled with this awesome yarn was a perfect match - LOVE my new mitts!
