Grandbaby Quilts

April 1 , 2017

My daughter is having a baby this summer - First grandbaby for me, so I am in baby quilt mode ☺️

The idea for this quilt came from Judy Martin's book Star Happy Quilts, but I wanted a much smaller version so I used the smallest size in the book and then downsized all the blocks to 4" and 8" (instead of 6" and 12") - also made smaller borders - 2" inner and 1" outer border.

Pattern: Star Happy Quilt - pattern by Judy Martin
Size: 32" X 40"
Fabric: all scraps except for backing which is "Polar Frost" flannel by Northcott.
Modifications: Downsized all components for smaller quilt
Method: machine pieced/ machine quilted using gentle curves.

This quilt started with the back panel which is soft cuddly flannel and the cutest mama and baby polar bear ever. Seemed perfect since this baby lives in Alaska. You can see the gentle curves I used for quilting here - I think I like the back even more than the front!

Kaffe Fasset Charm Quilt
The 2nd quilt started out as one Kaffe Fasset charm square pack. I limited myself to only using that pack with a background fabric - a fun challenge! I was able to get a beautiful little baby size quilt.

Pattern: 16 patch Checkerboard
Size: 30 " X 37 " (I made each square 1 3/4" so I could get 4 from every charm)
Fabric: One Kaffe Fasset charm square pack and background fabric from Kate Spain Canyon collection.
Method: machine pieced/ machine quilted using gentle curves.

Baby quilts are so much fun!
