Strictly Triangles Scrap Quilt

January 14, 2017

I LOVED this quilt from the moment I saw it in Katharine Guerrier's Book "Scrap Quilt Sensation". I used hundreds of scraps - some dating back to the 1980s. The oldest ugliest scraps give it such character - and the bright teeny triangles keep the eyes moving across the whole quilt.

Started out with lots and lots of triangles - I wanted to have a huge variety, but still keep the quilt lap size, so I made each unit 2" instead of 3" - the smaller half square triangles are only 1" square.

Pieced 1568 of these into 2" half square triangles and 896 into 1" half square triangles!
This picture show just some of them...

Pattern: Strictly Triangles from Scrap Quilt Sensation by Katharine Guerrier
Size: 54 " X 62 "
Fabric: nothing but scraps
Modifications: Made each unit smaller. Changed size of finished half square triangle from 3" to 2" so each 16 patch is 8" X 8"
Method: machine and paper pieced/ machine quilted using gentle curves.

A close up

With a quilt this scrappy, I knew I would piece the back too - all my dull blues :)
